Pittsburgh Classic Mac Lab
Developed by educator Scott Baret, the Pittsburgh Classic Mac Lab is a hands-on learning experience that brings classic Apple Macintosh computers and educational software to life.
A creative, welcoming space where learners of all ages and abilities can explore technology, build confidence, and have fun.
Out there, it’s 2026, in the lab it’s 1992.

About Pittsburgh Classic Mac Lab
The Pittsburgh Classic Mac Lab gives learners the chance to step into the world of classic Apple Macintosh computers and experience technology in a way that is hands-on, creative, and fun.
The lab is not just a display of older computers. It is an interactive space where people can actually use the machines, explore classic educational software, create projects, play games, and discover how technology has helped people learn for generations.
The lab was created from Scott’s passion for education and his belief that meaningful learning can happen through exploration, play, and curiosity. What began as part of his student teaching experience has grown into a welcoming opportunity for students, families, educators, nostalgic adults, and community members to connect with classic technology in a memorable way.
For children with disabilities, the Pittsburgh Classic Mac Lab offers something especially valuable: a chance to experience learning through a fresh, exciting, low-pressure activity that encourages creativity, confidence, and fun.
Who the Mac Lab Serves and How It Helps
The Pittsburgh Classic Mac Lab welcomes learners of all ages and abilities — from children discovering classic computer programs for the first time to adults who remember these machines from school, home, or childhood.
It is also a meaningful hands-on experience for educators, families, community groups, and anyone who enjoys creativity, technology, exploration, and a little nostalgia.
With restored classic Macintosh computers and educational software, participants can create digital artwork, play classic learning games, practice academic skills, explore vintage programs, print projects, and experience technology as many students did in the 1980s and 1990s.
More than anything, the Mac Lab is for people who learn best when they are invited to explore, try, laugh, create, and have fun.
With restored computers, printers, networking, and beloved educational software titles, the lab offers an experience that feels authentic, interactive, welcoming, and memorable.
Connection: The Guild Way
The Pittsburgh Classic Mac Lab reminds us that learning does not have to be complicated to be meaningful.
Classic computers offer a slower, simpler, and more focused way to engage with technology. They encourage patience, creativity, problem-solving, and curiosity. They also create opportunities for intergenerational connection — giving adults a chance to revisit memories while children discover something completely new.
At The Dragon Slayers’ Guild, we are proud to feature this community connection because accessibility is about more than meeting basic needs.
It is also about creating joyful, inclusive opportunities where people with disabilities can explore, participate, and feel welcomed.
The Pittsburgh Classic Mac Lab brings together education, creativity, and community in a way that helps people learn, connect, and have fun — one classic Mac at a time.
